APPOINTMENT OF SINGAPORE’S HONORARY CONSUL-GENERAL IN OSAKA, JAPAN

Dear SAiJ Members,

The Government of the Republic of Singapore, with the agreement of the Government of Japan, has appointed Mr Yozo Shimano as Singapore's Honorary Consul-General in Osaka, Japan, with jurisdiction over the regions of Kinki, Chugoku, Shikoku, Kyushu and Okinawa.

Mr Shimano, 62, is the President of SHIMANO INC. Established in 1921, SHIMANO INC. is one of the world's leading multinational manufacturers of bicycle components as well as fishing and rowing equipment. SHIMANO INC.'s relationship with Singapore spans 38 years. The company opened its first offshore production plant at Jurong in 1973 and has continued to maintain a strong presence in Singapore till this day.

CLOSURE OF THE SINGAPORE CONSULATE-GENERAL IN OSAKA?

This is to inform you that the Singapore Consulate-General's Office in Osaka will cease to operate with effect from Friday, 30 September 2011. Its functions will be taken over by an Honorary Consulate-General in Osaka which will be opened in a few weeks time. Further details will be announced in due course.

Each year, the Singapore Embassy in Tokyo hosts a reception specially for Singaporean students who are studying in Japan. This year's reception will be held at the Embassy's premises.The attire is Smart Casual or Jacket without tie.

We sincerely hope you can join us. It would be a great time to catch up with one another and to establish new friendships with other Singaporeans, especially those who have recently arrived in Japan. A lunch buffet that would include some popular Singapore dishes will be served.
